“Fit for the Future with 5G”, an exclusive conference organized by Vodafone Albania, was held yesterday at the Innovation Hub, at the Tirana Pyramid, where the transformative potential of 5G technology was discussed and showcased. This groundbreaking event brought together business leaders, public sector decision-makers and industry pioneers to explore how 5G is shaping the future of economic growth, sustainability and innovation in Albania.
Present were the CEO of Vodafone Albania, Balazs Revesz, who opened the event and introduced the guests; the Ambassador of the European Union to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, who spoke about the EU's support for digital transformation and public safety initiatives in Albania; Enkelejda Imeraj, Director General of the Agency for Innovation and Excellence; Enkelejda Muçaj, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, who spoke about infrastructure projects for connectivity and smart cities. Also present was Jonida Lakuriqi, Director of Legal and Public Policies and External Relations at Vodafone.
The conference had two main panels, the first of which was dedicated to the topic “Innovation to Attract Economic Growth”, while the second to future strategies and solutions. In the last part of the conference, concrete demonstrations of technological solution models were also presented, among which the audience was introduced to the latest innovations offered by Vodafone's 5G technology, together with global leaders such as Nokia and Airbus.
Vodafone Albania CEO Balazs Revesz said in his opening remarks: “We at Vodafone are committed to bringing the power of True 5G to all of Albania by 2030. 5G infrastructure will become the heartbeat of Albania’s economy in the future. 5G will catalyze smart cities, where energy and traffic systems self-optimize. It will revolutionize healthcare with telemedicine and diagnostics driven by Artificial Intelligence. It will also attract foreign investment, positioning Albania as a hub for technology-driven industries. And Vodafone is proudly leading this historic transformation.”
Meanwhile, Gentian Sala, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority – AKEP, added that Vodafone, one of the largest technology companies in the world and with 23 years of experience in Albania, has brought major changes to the local market. “Since the Blackberry of 2009, 3G, 4G+, the piloting of 5G and now 5G signal coverage. We are privileged to have a company that has given so much to this market. AKEP’s focus has been the mobile market, but we must not forget that there is also a fixed telephony market and in this 5-year term of my mandate I will do my utmost to regulate this market as well.”
On the other hand, Jonida Lakuriqi, Director of the Legal, Public Policy and External Relations Department at Vodafone Albania, emphasized that digital infrastructure and high-speed networks are at the foundation of a Gigabyte or digital society. “It is precisely this digital society that we aim to accelerate, because it is one of the main pillars of Albania's integration into the EU,” said Lakuriqi.
