In the Appeal of the GJKKO, Veliaj has opposed the new evidence presented by SPAK because, according to him, they do not constitute legal elements.
According to Euronews, Veliaj stated that the new evidence is the interception of his family conversations, according to him they are related to his media interviews and interest in interviews on important television channels.
The mayor of Tirana also criticized that SPAK did not consider Sali Berisha's public attacks on the new justice system as new evidence, focusing only on his personal phone calls and messages with his family and taking them as evidence.
"You isolated me for 1 month in prison to find 'new evidence'. Saliu insulted SPAK and accused it of being a criminal organization, what did he find? Why weren't Berisha's attacks on SPAK considered new evidence?" Veliaj said in the hearing.
