The lawyer from the firm that defended Trump for 15 years represents Veliaj in court

The legal team of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, conducted a visit to the detention facilities in Durrës this Monday (March 10).
Joshua Roberts, a representative of the American law firm Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP, known for representing former President Donald Trump for more than 15 years, was part of the meeting. Roberts is advising Mayor Veliaj and will follow the process as an observer.
After the detention visit, Roberts gave a brief statement to the media:
“My name is Joshua Roberts, I am a partner in an American law firm advising Mayor Veliaj and we have been aware of his arrest since February 10. I am here in the role of an observer. In the US, according to the Constitution and law, a citizen can only be detained before trial if he poses a danger to society. Political influence or detention without clear charges contradicts the principles of the rule of law and democracy.”
He added that he will closely follow the Appeal hearing for Veliaj's conditional release, but declined to provide further comments:
"Tomorrow I will observe the appeal arguments, but today I will not answer questions or make any remarks."
The law firm Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP has represented former President Donald Trump in some of the most significant legal matters, both in his businesses and during his presidential campaigns.
