Two new buildings with European standards are added to the "Student City" in Tirana. Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, and the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new dormitories, transformed thanks to the financial support of the German Government, through the KfW Bank, which also includes the reconstruction of 15 other buildings, with the program "Energy-efficient rehabilitation of student dormitories of public universities in Albania".

During the ceremony, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, emphasized the fact that this investment offers a new reality for students. “I am glad that we continue subsidizing the payment for students. A room in these dormitories costs less than 20 lek per day. So, as much as a coffee and a water per day. In total, it is an amount of 5500 lek per month, while in reality the cost is much higher. We, as leftists, believe that we will share this cost with the students. The Municipality of Tirana pays more than 6000 lek per month, including water, electricity, internet and everything else, while students pay less than 200 lek per day, for an environment that would be the envy of any 3-4 star hotel in Tirana,” said Veliaj.

He added that the Municipality of Tirana, in collaboration with the Albanian government, have implemented social and solidarity policies for all segments of society, from children, students to pensioners.

"This is why we joined the government's pension reform train and, just as the government gave a bonus to pensioners and will give another one, the Municipality of Tirana made its contribution through a free pass for all pensioners. There are over 30 thousand pensioners who have already withdrawn their pass. We are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. We have added points for this month and I am glad that, in total, for each pensioner, the contribution with the free pass is 192 thousand lek per year", said Veliaj.

The mayor also gave a message to skeptics: "For all those who are screaming all day today and who are worried about the youth, we will have to compare their 'Student City' with the 'Student City' we have today. We compare night with day, we compare the Middle Ages with the new conditions today, where practically the same dormitory, where all the foreign students of the College of Europe are accommodated, is the same dormitory, the same conditions, as are all our students."

In the end, the mayor shared the common idea with Prime Minister Rama, when he said that the new dormitories could be turned into an investment instrument, by turning them into Airbnb during the summer. From this investment, more than 2,600 Albanian students benefit from the "Student City", which significantly improves their living and study conditions.
