A Delta Air Lines plane has crashed while landing at Toronto's Pearson International Airport, injuring 18 passengers, including a child.
“We are very grateful that there was no loss of life or serious injury,” said Deborah Flint, CEO of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority.
Delta Flight 4819 departed Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport on Monday and arrived at its destination in Toronto shortly after 2 p.m. local time.
Toronto had been buffeted by strong winds all day, while airport staff worked to clear 8cm of snow left over from the weekend.
During the approach for landing, air traffic controllers notified the pilots of winds of up to 38 mph (about 61 km/h), which are believed to have contributed to the air incident.
