About 2 thousand doctors are suspended due to non-vaccination in Italy

Italian authorities reported on Friday that 1,913 doctors and dentists had been suspended from duty after refusing to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The National Association of Doctors and Dentists has said that doctors have failed to present evidence of vaccination.

The January 21 announcement comes after the suspension of 1,656 doctors in November last year.

Medical professionals have been required to be vaccinated against coronavirus since the adoption of the new law, which went into effect in April.

In total, the data show that more than 33,500 doctors are not fully vaccinated in Italy.

However, this figure also includes those who have been cured of the coronavirus and are waiting to be vaccinated, those who have been vaccinated outside Italy and doctors who cannot be immunized for medical reasons.

In addition to doctors, authorities have also announced the suspension of about 6,000 nurses and other health workers due to non-vaccination.

Some of them are currently infected or subject to quarantine.

In the last seven days, 2,011 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants have been registered in Italy, the Supreme Institute of Health has announced.

The rapid rise in cases since the beginning of the year has prompted authorities to tighten restrictions on fighting the pandemic.

From Thursday, Italians must submit a negative coronavirus test if they visit a beauty salon.

Earlier this month, Italy introduced a compulsory vaccination measure for people over the age of 50.

According to official data, the number of immunizations of this age group has increased after the decision was made.
