The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has appealed in the Special Appeal against the security measure "prison arrest" imposed in absentia against him.
His lawyer stated that he is preparing a second appeal for the February 12 decision where anti-corruption judge Erjon Bani left in force the measures he had announced in absentia during the verification of the conditions.
Veliaj was arrested at the Municipality office on February 10 as a suspect in the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials." The mayor's wife, Ajola Xoxa, has been remanded in custody with "compulsory appearance."
