What is the right time to brush your teeth?

In my daily work with my patients, I always try to devote a few minutes during the appointment to advice on better hygiene and the prevention of dental caries.
In most of my reading of columns on online platforms or social media I read a lot of wrong or superficial information, myths about dental health, folk remedies or products that promise miracles and many other things. I want this blog to be your destination for cleaner, healthier teeth.
The best thing you can do for your teeth today is to maintain ideal oral hygiene every day, so today I would like to start with some things that we don't know or do wrong every day when we brush our teeth.
1. What is the right time for brushing teeth in the morning or in the evening?
The correct answer is in the evening. If one morning we have to hurry and go out in a hurry, in the evening I would not recommend you to sleep a night without brushing your teeth, because during the night the bacterial activity is more increased. This is because the level of saliva secretion decreases, which keeps the mouth clean. In a dry, saliva-free environment, bacteria are more powerful, but they are also more powerful in a dirty environment, such as after a meal. Food remains on the surface of the teeth and between them, which the bacteria use as "food", the correct term is substrate, and they produce acids. These acids are the ones that start and melt the enamel and cause dental caries, so they destroy the teeth. So if one evening you are too lazy to brush your teeth, think again.

The classic technique that we have been taught over the years, that of brushing up-down and left-right, is wrong because it does not help to clean the necks of the teeth and can be abrasive to them. The correct technique is circular motion holding the brush at a 45 degree angle to the tooth and not perpendicular. We brush our teeth this way for 3 minutes and finish with dental floss in the spaces between the teeth. Dental floss needs to be used at least once a day, in the evening, and so you will no longer suffer from caries between 2 teeth.
