Meloni rejects sending Italian troops to Ukraine: I am committed to mediating

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has opposed the proposal by France and Great Britain to send Italian troops to Ukraine, considering this step "difficult to implement."

In an interview with Rai 1 Secolo TV on March 4, Meloni stressed that Italy remains committed to Western unity, but will not commit troops to the conflict.

This statement came after the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, who, during a visit to Washington on February 24, spoke about the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine as part of a security guarantee, without direct involvement on the war front.

Despite the rejection of the troops, Meloni has expressed his willingness to mediate between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, offering Italy as a channel of communication to reduce tensions.
