A gunman was shot by the US Secret Service near the White House on Sunday morning. The news was confirmed by authorities shortly after the incident.
According to Secret Service Communications Director Anthony Guglielmi, the assailant was identified as a suspicious person who had traveled to Washington from Indiana. Security officers located him and found his vehicle parked near the secured area.
“As officers approached him, he pulled out a gun and opened fire, forcing our forces to intervene,” Guglielmi said. Injured by the gunfire, the attacker was immediately taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time of the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive for the incident.
