Greece in a state of emergency, what is happening in Santorini?

Several more earthquakes have struck the Greek island of Santorini just hours after authorities declared a state of emergency. On Thursday, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake was recorded at 8:16 p.m. in the sea between Santorini and another island, Amorgos.

Also on the Greek island of Santorini, night patrols have been launched due to fears of looting on the island, after most residents were evacuated. More than 11,000 people have fled as earthquakes are being recorded minute by minute.

A magnitude of 6.0 or higher is considered severe, while a magnitude of 5.2, the strongest ever experienced in the region, is considered normal. The state of emergency for the island will be in effect for almost a month, until March 3.
