Denmark bans cell phones in schools

The Danish government has decided to ban the use of mobile phones in all state primary and secondary schools, as part of an effort to improve the well-being of children and young people.

The decision was made following the recommendation of the Population Welfare Commission and will affect almost all students aged 7 to 17, who will not be allowed to take their phones to school.

This move comes at a time when more and more European countries are adopting stricter measures to limit children's access to technology and social networks, with the aim of protecting mental health and promoting social interaction.

The commission, established by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in 2023, was tasked with analyzing the growing sense of dissatisfaction and loneliness among young people — a phenomenon that researchers have also linked to excessive use of phones and social media.

This decision is expected to be implemented across the country, as schools will work to create environments more focused on learning and well-being.
