Why Trump has a personal grudge against Zelensky and is supporting Russia

Trump has it personal with Zelensky and not because he is interested in Russia.

This is the analysis, and even argued with details and events from 2016 and 2018, of Fareed Zakaria from CNN.

He talks about a phone conversation between Trump and Zelensky, as well as the latter's refusal to obey Putin.

"What explains Trump's desire to sell out Ukraine and side with Putin?"

There are many theories about Trump and Russia, but I think the real story is between Trump and Zelensky.

Donald Trump sees everything from a personal perspective, and his relationship with Zelensky has been fractured for several years.

In 2016, Trump's campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was revealed to be on the pay list of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, a pro-Russian politician who fled to Russia in 2014 after nationwide protests against him.

Then came suspicions that Russia had influenced the outcome of the 2016 election.

Some close to Trump convinced him of a conspiracy theory that it was actually Ukrainians pretending to be Russians who were to blame.

Trump seemed convinced by this clarification so much that in his July 2019 phone call with Zelensky, he asked Zelensky for two honors.

First, he demanded evidence proving this in order to then pin the blame on the Russians, and second, he wanted Zelensky to launch an investigation into Biden and his son.

The key point here is that Zelensky did not succumb to Trump's pressure, even after Trump's military was on standby.

In fact, Zelensky called Trump's bluff.

This would have angered Trump.

"A personal matter with a man in a healthy ego," Zakaria said.
