Smoke bomb in Serbian Parliament, three MPs injured, one in critical condition

A serious incident occurred this Tuesday in the Serbian Parliament, when opposition MPs stood up from their seats and threw fireworks into the hall, in protest against the government.

The situation became tense after the ruling coalition approved the agenda, which was strongly opposed by the opposition. Opposition MPs approached the speaker of the parliament’s desk, set off red and black smoke bombs and unfurled a banner reading: “Serbia is rising to overthrow the regime.”

The agenda included 62 items, including changes to the Law on Higher Education — a key demand of students who have been protesting for months, following the tragic collapse of a shelter at the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1 last year.

Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic confirmed that two MPs were injured during the incident, while Jasmina Obradovic, a Progressive Party MP, suffered a stroke and is in critical condition.
