Rama at the Tourism Fair in Berlin: We were the North Korea of Europe, now

During the Berlin Tourism Fair, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that Albania has undergone an extraordinary transformation, moving from an isolated country to a rapidly growing tourist destination.

“We used to be the North Korea of Europe,” Rama said, recalling the period before 1990 when the country was completely isolated. “Our airport had few passengers, and even tourists had to go through a barber before entering the country.”

Today, the situation is completely different. In the last year alone, 11 million passengers passed through Mother Teresa Airport. Tourism has grown 10-fold in the last decade, thanks to the crystal clear waters, pristine beaches, mountains and historic castles protected by UNESCO.

“Albania is not what you thought. It is an exploration of all the senses,” Rama added, inviting German tourists in particular to discover the country’s beauties. He also mentioned the newspaper “Bild”, which calls Albania the fastest growing destination in the world.

Rama concluded his speech by emphasizing that Albania today no longer brings only the sun, but also a rich and diverse experience for every visitor who chooses to visit this country with extraordinary tourist potential.
