The borders with Greece have been closed due to protests on the 2nd anniversary of the Tempi tragedy.

57 people, almost all students, were killed and dozens more injured when an intercity passenger train collided head-on with a freight locomotive in the Tempe valley on February 28, 2023. This was the worst rail accident in Greek history.

Greece is protesting today and as a result, border crossings are blocked.

In addition to the Kakavija border crossing, the Qafë Bot – Saranda and Tre Urat – Përmet customs will also be temporarily blocked today.

Greek customs officers have suspended work to go on strike. As a result, from 07:00 to 23:00, only pedestrian movement without luggage and medical emergencies (ambulances) will be allowed.

The Border Police appealed to all citizens and drivers who have planned to travel to Greece to find other alternatives to travel and to avoid gathering at the aforementioned border points until further notice.
