Amid fears of illness and death, fears of self and loved ones, there is the worry of bills. We are poor even according to the 2018 Deposit Analysis. Only 1% of the population has bank savings of over 50,000 euros. So they have no reservations to cope with the food and bills of the pandemic month or months, when the crisis is also felt in the economy.
Jobless journalists, jobless call center workers, craftsmen who crawl daily to make money, even those confined to home to avoid death risk being left without a minimum wage, not to mention the paying bills, rent, light, water.
Prime Minister Edi Rama in a direct link to other ministers on Facebook said payment of the lights would not be negotiated. It must be done by the citizens and those who do not pay will be cut off.
Rama: The payment of the lights will be done one by one because if the payment of the lights is not paid we will collapse. We have pardoned interest, but the present will be paid. Whoever spends will pay. If someone says I have too much spending and can't afford it, spend less.
And even if the payment of these months were postponed for another moment, when the war was over, wouldn't the Albanians be plunged into debt?
War, what about war? Who has conquered us? We are really in a pandemic that is global, but the government is at work, what do we have for the state?
The prime minister says: Do not turn on the light, do not spend unless you have to pay. What about children who are learning from home in the dark to write?
Heck this March is as cold as it was February. And what can Albanians do to leave their children cold, sick, and endangered in a hospital at a time when thinking is scary.
Maybe someone needs to review this work again. Maybe one has to become more empathetic and remember that if the Albanians are the first to be spared, they are used to eating with a torch, but in conditions when it is neither leaking nor leaking, how will they manage?
