How to find your lost iPhone, even if it's turned off

In the 21st century, most of us live with smartphones. They serve as a pocket computer, alarm clock, notepad, contact list, photo album, GPS, encyclopedia, music playlist and, of course, phone.

When you reach into your pocket and realize your phone isn't there, a wave of panic can set in. But there are some quick and easy steps to start your search.

There are two Find My features available from Apple that can help you locate a lost phone.

The Find My app is the primary tool for finding lost Apple devices, and Apple's Find My network uses Bluetooth streaming to locate them.

(To enable it go to Settings > Your Username > Find My > Find My iPhone. There you can enable both Find My iPhone and Find My Network.)
