TikTok's turn to copy Instagram. Here is what is being created

TikTok will go head-to-head with social media rival Instagram by launching a photo-sharing app. The company said it was working on a dedicated space to post photos and text. Some users have already received notifications saying their photo posts will be shared in a new 'TikTok Notes' app unless they opt out.

This is not the first time that competitors offer options like their opponents. Even Instagram introduced the reels option that imitates TikTok videos in 2020 or Stories that imitate Snapchat.

"The phenomenon of copying is rampant across social media platforms," Mike Proulx, a research director at analysis firm Forrester, told the BBC.

TikTok says it hasn't finalized the design of the Notes app, nor has it confirmed a launch date.
