Why are big tech companies cutting so many jobs?

Why are big tech companies cutting so many jobs?

The big picture of this situation is described by Austin Carr and Sarah McBride. This is considered a new reality and a very old story. The numbers are huge. Almost 100,000 people lost their jobs last year.

According to Challenger statistics, the technology industry in 2022 cut jobs by 649%, or otherwise 97,171 jobs.

This year doesn't look any better either. So far in January, Amazon.com Inc. has said it expects to lay off 18,000 people.

But why these cuts?

Gazetari i Bloomberg, Andrew Martin, shkruan:

According to security researchers and employment experts, so-called data exfiltration - the unauthorized acquisition of data - increases when employees leave their jobs. In a September report analyzing customer data, cybersecurity company Cyberhaven found that employees are 69% more likely to receive data right before they resign.

As layoffs mount, it can be difficult for companies to control this flow of information.

For many young Russians, the barrage of sanctions that severed their country's ties to large parts of the global economy was a good reason to lose their jobs.
