Neither Instagram nor Facebook is the most downloaded app for 2020
TikTok is the most downloaded app for 2020, leaving behind the most popular apps like Facebook and Instagram. The ranking was revealed by digital analytics company, App Annie.
The video sharing platform, part of the Chinese company Bytedance, is the only app that is not owned by Facebook and has managed to lead the downloads for 2020.
Tick-Tok's popularity soared even after former US President Donald Trump tried to ban him in America.
Facebook-owned apps have held first place since the start of the survey in 2018, but apparently the Chinese app is taking the throne.
Last year, Donald Trump issued an executive order to ban new downloads of the TikTok app in the US.
The Trump administration claimed that TikTok posed a threat to national security as the Chinese government had access to its user data, but the company consistently denied the allegations.
When Biden took office as President of the United States in January this year he withdrew Trump's executive order.
Last week, TikTok approved a new feature in the app. TikTok Stories will allow users to view content posted from accounts they follow for 24 hours before being deleted, just like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
