Former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear has been named the new interim CEO of OpenAI following the firing of Sam Altman a few days ago.
Initially, it was Albanian Mira Murati who took Altman's position, but today the company has announced the appointment of Shear.
In a post made on the "X" platform on Monday, Shear said that he had received a call from the company during which he was asked to become the interim CEO of the company and that he had accepted the offer after consulting with the family.
Who is Emmett Shear?
Shear, who grew up in Seattle, has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Yale University.
After graduating in 2005 he founded his first startup, Kiko Calendar, with Justin Kan.
"We built it, we sold it on eBay," he said in a 2014 lecture. "That's not necessarily the end you want for your startup."
In 2011, Shear went public with Twitch, which was acquired in 2014 by Amazon for $970 million. The streaming platform says it now has 7 million streams every month.
Shear is also an investor.
