Amazon will ship the drone packages within one hour of ordering

Amazon says it will start sending drone packages to buyers. They are just waiting for the final approval of the regulator.

Shoppers in the California town of Lockeford will be able to register to pick up their orders, at home, by air.

It is not the first time Amazon promises drone deliveries, but for various reasons it has faced delays and setbacks.

Amazon is planning to open the service more widely, after Lockeford.

The drones will be programmed to drop packages at customer yards in Lockeford, which has a population of about 4,000.

They will be able to fly ‘beyond the line of sight’, which means they should not be controlled by a visual observer and will instead use sensors to avoid aircraft, people, pets and any obstruction.

"The goal is to deliver packages to customers safely in less than an hour," said an Amazon representative.
