Bill Gates's hardest year is 2021! Two things that made him unusual
Bill Gates had a reflection this year-end and wrote on his blog that 2021 was the most difficult year of his life as a result of his divorce from Melinda French Gates and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Microsoft co-founder wrote in GatesNotes about the hardships he faced this year and the end of his 27-year marriage to Melinda.
"I know many people are curious about a very personal topic: my divorce," Gates wrote in the post.
The couple announced they would split in May and officially divorced in August.
Gates writes that he can not deny that it has been a sad year for his personal life.
He further adds that he and his ex-wife still run the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and that they have found a new, good working pace.
During July, when the divorce had not yet been officially formalized Melinda said she could step down as co-chair after two years if she and Bill could not work together.
In his analysis Gates explains how difficult it has been for the COVID-19 pandemic to take days without any human interaction. "It was a strange and misleading experience," he said.
"My personal world has never felt smaller than it has in the last twelve months. My nest has been officially left empty as two of my children have finally left home. I spent a lot of time without having any social interaction face to face with someone. That's until I got vaccinated. "When I had a break between my online meetings I walked around the yard just to see something different," writes Bill Gates.
