A team of Google scientists are testing a new artificial intelligence tool that can diagnose diseases by evaluating cough and breathing sounds.
The new engine was trained through millions of audio recordings of human-made noises. The Health Acoustic Representations (HeAR) system can be used to diagnose diseases including Covid-19 and tuberculosis as well as understand how well a person's lungs are working.
The research has not yet been peer-reviewed and it is still too soon to know whether or not HeAR will become a commercial product.
