Caffeine is found naturally in your morning coffee or added to your favorite energy drinks. For many of us, a shot of caffeine can give our bodies and brains a much-needed boost if we're feeling tired. But what happens if you take too much?

Caffeine is quickly absorbed into our bloodstream, therefore making us feel more alert.

Coffee is associated with a healthy composition of gut microbes – which can be good for our health.

And tea has also been found to have similar anti-inflammatory effects due to its antioxidant content.

But while caffeine enters the gut fairly quickly, its effects can take hours to wear off.

Scientists recommend that the last dose of caffeine be taken about eight hours before going to bed.

And if people need to stop caffeine suddenly, experts advise doing so gradually over several days.
