From Emily to Paris, to Paris vs. Emily. Why Parisians have not welcomed the filming of the fourth season
From Emily to Paris, to Paris vs. Emily. One thing is for sure, Emily in Paris, the famous Netflix series is not welcome in Paris.
The film crew has arrived in the French capital to film the fourth season, but the residents have not welcomed them, on the contrary.
On the walls, in the fountains, around the city, especially where it is filmed, it is written: Emily, you are not welcome here.
Why do they have this approach to the series?
At first glance, the series seems harmless. "Emily in Paris" tells the story of a young American girl who wants to conquer the world of advertising. She then fulfilled her childhood dream by moving to Paris, the capital of fashion. She dresses extravagantly, takes hundreds of selfies and speaks French.
The main character, Emily, is loved... but seems not to be universally accepted in France.
'My god, not again, stay away from here,' some residents criticized in the comments.
The once quiet Place de l'Estrapade has become a tourist attraction since 'Emily in Paris'. Fans are delighted to be able to pose in front of famous locations, such as Emily's apartment or Gabriel's (Lucas Bravo) restaurant. The bakery "Boulangerie Moderne" is also located in this area, where Emily regularly goes to get croissants. Thierry Rabineau, the baker, is grateful for the increased sales, but regrets the other side of the coin. The man is particularly saddened by the negative comments left for his store. His daughter Inès also spoke on TikTok: “Unfortunately, a lot of people come and expect to see something crazy, while we remain a very classic bakery. (...) We are not here to sell you dreams! We do good stuff, but don't expect anything crazy.”
Traders, but also residents, experience concerns. This is why the text 'Emily is not welcome' is also written in red on the building where 'Emily lives'.
"Every day there are fans at the door, my neighbors are going crazy. If they see you posing, they drive you away," sighs a young woman who has lived in the building for years. On TikTok, she talks about the reality of life in the building of 'Emily in Paris' and tries to make fans of the series understand that they are following a fantasy. The building is nowhere near as glamorous as the series makes it out to be, the door gets stuck every time and the insulation is zero.
The building itself, but also the surrounding fountains, the walls and shutters of the shops were covered with the same inscription: 'Emily, we don't want you here!', or worse.
"If people imagine us everywhere with a baguette under our arm. Emily In Paris gives you the impression that all Parisians are mean, lazy snobs with Birkin bags who come to work late and light a cigarette as soon as they leave the gym. Oh yeah, and they spend the rest of their time cheating on their wives,” says someone else.
The fact that the residents aren't exactly happy to see Emily and her friends on the streets of Paris obviously doesn't bother the filmmakers. The series is in the top 10 most watched.
