CCBS presents the roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030

Enabled with the support of consultants, the Roadmap includes the necessary investments and influences the involvement of third parties in the supply network, towards sustainable actions.

CCBS, the authorized partner for the production, bottling, sale and distribution of Coca-Cola products in Albania and a proactive actor in the country's development over the past 30 years, has laid the foundations towards an ambitious objective: The aim to become the company of first in Albania to reach Carbon Neutral. This goal will be achieved by following a Roadmap that will define the necessary investments to be met by 2030.

The roadmap, prepared with the support of consultants, identifies key measures to reduce the carbon footprint of CCBS activities in the coming years. They include the company's direct emissions (so-called Scope 1 and 2), which can be reduced through innovation and investments, as well as indirect ones (Scope 3), related to raw material suppliers and transport. For this area, the dialogue with the supply chain will be essential, adopting common standards as well as promoting a common transformation towards more sustainable business practices, in cooperation with other actors.

Another element of CCBS's sustainability vision, which during these years has brought numerous investments, such as: self-production of 68% of the electricity needs for CCBS thanks to the photovoltaic plant, a commercial fleet of 99 electric vehicles in Tirana, Durrës, Kavajë , Elbasan and Vlorë, as well as an increased use of recycled materials (such as recycled PET – rPET) for beverage packaging distributed throughout the country.

CCBS will annually monitor the carbon footprint according to recognized standards, planning and implementing significant initiatives to reduce it: these include the adoption of alternative energy sources such as an electric boiler, monitoring of air compressors, control pumps and replacement of refrigerators in sales points with new energy-efficient refrigerators. Also, a plan will be implemented to transform the entire commercial fleet into electric cars (from 99 current vehicles to 224 vehicles by 2030.

According to the estimates made, these investments will enable an 87% reduction of the current carbon footprint for Scope 1 and 2, by 2030. For Scope 3 emissions, which are more challenging as they require a parallel evolution from partners and suppliers, dialogue with all stakeholders will be a priority, given the impact on total emissions. The evolution of packaging will continue to play an important role, through a further reduction in the weight of packaging in PET and aluminium, as well as the increased use of recycled bottles in the product portfolio. From 2024, even packaging tape will be made from 100% recycled plastic. Irreducible emissions will be offset through Scope 1, 2 and 3 offset initiatives.

"When setting a goal, a clear Roadmap is needed and this is the result of months of hard work by the entire CCBS team with field consultants, of which I am extremely proud" - stated Luca Busi, President of CCBS

"We recently celebrated our 30th anniversary in the country and we want to continue to be a forward-looking enterprise, challenging ourselves to constantly improve our work process, contributing to the definition of new standards and participating in community roundtables of business, institutions and Albanian civil society. The year 2030 is a reference point for all who see the path to more sustainable practices as a joint effort. As CCBS, we will commit to making our investments in increasing efficiency, renewing our production lines and improving operations concrete and impactful," concluded the President of CCBS.
