Abandoning animals in Croatia will soon become a criminal offense punishable by up to one year in prison.
It is the first time that in Croatia the abandonment of animals is treated as a criminal offense that can result in a prison sentence.
It is currently an integral part of the Animal Protection Law, for which a fine of up to HRK 30,000 is foreseen.
The Ministry of Justice and Administration plans to take an additional step in strengthening the protection of animals, so they propose increasing prison sentences for killing or torturing animals.
