ALBtelecom joins the UN Women global initiative for women's empowerment
ALBtelecom, the largest telecommunications company in Albania, signed the membership in the Principles of Women's Empowerment (WEPs), a global initiative for gender equality, promoted by UN Women and UN Global Compact. To announce this innovation to the public, an event was organized at the ALBtelecom Academy.
Having a long history in the market, ALBtelecom has shown over the years a continuous commitment to the promotion of women in the workplace, thus setting inspiring records in the efforts to achieve gender equality throughout the industry.
Currently in ALBtelecom 61% of employees are women and 43% of management positions are held by them, in the most important sectors of the company. ALBtelecom itself is run by a woman, marking a milestone for the industry itself.
In the speech held during the event, the CEO of ALBtelecom, Mrs. Bilgen Aldan expressed pride in running a company that provides concrete evidence of promoting women in the workplace and invited all actors in the business environment to consider gender equality as an incentive towards mutual success.
Also present at the event was the representative of UN Women Albania, Mr. Michele Ribotta, who stressed the key role that ICT companies such as ALBtelecom can play in overcoming the existing digital divide between the sexes, offering greater access to women and girls in skills, services and jobs in the digital economy.
The Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Mrs. Anisa Ruseti, invited as a speaker at the event, noted the gap in the level of wages between men and women, and expressed the municipality's support in further advancing policies in support of gender issues.
The signing of WEPs is a commitment to fostering business practices that empower women and accelerate gender equality in the workplace, market and community.
