100 single girls a week are trying to have babies by in vitro fertilization

The number of single women undergoing fertility treatment has tripled in a decade. The new figures prove this.

Between 2012 and 2022, single women using IVF or donor insemination increased from 1,400 to 4,800. In other words, 100 girls a week try in vitro.

And same-sex female couples starting fertility treatment rose from 1,300 to 3,300 over the same period, according to the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

This means single women now account for 6 per cent of all IVF treatments - more than one in 20 - up from 2 per cent a decade ago.

The report highlights how egg freezing is one of the 'fastest growing' treatments as well.
