The European Super League ends without being created yet

The European Super League ended within 48 hours. The project announced by Florentino Perez and Andrea Agnelli melted away after creating controversy around the world. The project was initially abandoned by English teams when they announced:

"We are obliged to work to reform the project. However, the goal is to reformulate the format: "We are proposing a new European championship because the current system does not work."

Full communiqué of the Super League:

The European Super League is convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change. We propose a new European competition because the existing system does not work. Our proposal aims to enable sport to evolve, generating revenue sources and stability for the entire football pyramid, as well as helping to overcome the financial difficulties faced by the entire football community as a result of the pandemic.

It would also provide improved solidarity payments to all football actors. Despite the announced departure of English clubs, forced to make such decisions due to the pressure exerted on them, we are convinced that our proposal is fully in line with European law and regulations as demonstrated today by a court decision to defend Superleague from third parties. Given the current circumstances, we will review the most appropriate steps to remodel the project, always keeping in mind our intentions to provide fans with the best possible experience, improving solidarity payments for the entire football community. ”
