The Spaniard, the tennis world number 2, injured his abdominal muscles at the end of the second set and was unable to beat his opponent, American Mackenzie McDonald, who is ranked 65th.
The match lasted two hours and ended in three sets with the score 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
