England Lionesses manager dedicates victory to her sister in the sky

Sarina Wiegman, manager of the Lionesses, has dedicated England's victory in the Euro 2022 final to her sister, who died three weeks before the start of the tournament.

As jubilant scenes erupted around her as the final whistle blew at Wembley Stadium yesterday evening, she calmly walked onto the pitch and was seen kissing a bracelet on her right wrist.

Speaking at her post-match press conference, which was interrupted by ecstatic England players singing the Three Lions chorus, Wiegman paid tribute to her sister.

She said, “I'm kissing this little ribbon. It was my sister's and she died while preparing for the tournament. I think she was here with me. She would have been here, she would have been really proud of me and I'm proud of her too."
