Luis Rubiales has resigned from his post as president of the Spanish soccer federation after weeks of heavy criticism over his unapproved kiss with Women's World Cup winner Jennifer Hermoso.
In his resignation letter, Rubiales vowed to clear his name against what he called "excessive persecution."
"I believe in the truth and I will do everything in my power to bring it out," he wrote. "My daughters, my family and the people who love me have suffered the consequences of excessive persecution, as well as many lies, but it is also true that on the streets, every day, the truth is being imposed."
