Hysaj's inaugural song provokes the racist reaction of Lazio fans: You are a worm!
The Lazio team in Italy is known for its extremist fan base, as the Italian capital club was backed by fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
The most recent purchase of the club was the winger of the Albanian national team Elsaid Hysaj, who, as is the tradition, sang a song on the first evening of joining the team. Hysaj's selection of "Bella Ciao", the Italian partisan song emblem of the left in Europe has angered the extremist base of Lazian ultras who last night unfurled a banner that read: "Hysaj is a crime! "Lazio is a fascist."
The scandalous action and with racist connotations has provoked the reaction of the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli who says that the act is shameful.
My solidarity with the Albanian football player of Lazio, Elseid Hysaj, who was attacked by ultras, who with a banner called him 'worm', because of his song "Bella Ciao" during the presentation before the team.
"Recently we have experienced great joy from Italy winning the European Championship and it is a shame that this is broken by something partisan with intolerance demonstrations that will never take place in the world of sports or anywhere else," said Sassoli.
The sports director of Lazio Igli Tare, the head of FSHF Armand Duka and the deputy prime minister Erjon Braç e also declared in support of Hysaj .
