The German interior minister, Nancy Faeser, has stated that German athletes may face a ban on entering Germany if they are again accepted to participate in international events.
"Places where major sports events take place are not powerless. They can control through the issuance of visas whether Russians can participate in the competitions,” said Faeser.
"We can act accordingly when we organize international competitions in Germany. We will always act with a clear stance on this," she said.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus have been banned from most international sporting events since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February last year.
