Christian Atsu is found dead under the ruins of his house after the earthquake

Footballer Christian Atsu has been found dead under the rubble of his home almost two weeks after the earthquake in Turkey, his agent has confirmed.

The 31-year-old had played for Chelsea and Newcastle in the Premier League, and then played for Hatayspor.

"It is with the greatest sadness that I have to inform you that, unfortunately, Christian Atsu's body was found this morning," wrote his agent Nana Sechere on Twitter.

"My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones."

Atsu joined Hatayspor in September 2022 after a season with Saudi Arabian side Al-Raed and scored the winning goal in a Super League match on 5 February.

He earned 65 caps for Ghana and helped his country reach the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, where they lost to Ivory Coast on penalties. Atsu was later named player of the tournament.

He joined Chelsea from Porto in 2013 and had several loan spells at clubs including Everton and Bournemouth.
