Albania's population is aging, the number of births continues to decline

The ever-declining trend of births is not stopping.

2023 has started with fewer babies born compared to the year before.

According to the data of the Institute of Statistics, 5,164 births were registered in the first 3 months of the year, this figure is 16.7% lower than the same period of 2022.

Births are falling in all cities, but the most sensitive is in the city of Lezha, where in the first 3 months of 2023, 215 babies were born out of 322 that came in 2022.

Tirana is the district with the largest number of births, while Gjirokastra has the lowest number.

If we look at the annual arc of 2022, 24,688 babies were born in Albania, marking a decrease of 9.3% compared to 2021.
