Dacia Maraini: School no longer educates to cultivate feelings

The Italian writer Dacia Maraini says that young people must be educated to cultivate feelings and respect. Based on an event that happened in the last few days in Palermo, where a 19-year-old girl was gang-raped by several boys, she expresses regret that today we are living in a state of cultural degradation and for this she blames the family, but also the education system.
"We live in a state of cultural degradation in which children are fed pornography, because there is no form of sentimental education. How can a guy get into sexuality if he doesn't have the right tools? Who should educate young people to respect? School together with the family. But in the nuclear family, these things are not talked about. Young people are ashamed of this, parents avoid this topic. We must educate young people not to think of the female body as a vessel".
