Kim Kardashian's big mistake! This is how the icon stylist Monroe calls the show at the Met Gala
"No one else should have appeared in that dress." This is what legendary costume stylist Bob Mackie thinks about Marilyn Monroe's dress, which Kim Kardashian wore at the Met Gala 2022.
82-year-old costume designer, who designed the dress "Happy Birthday, Mr. President ”of the iconic Hollywood actress gave a critical assessment of the noisy re-dress of the dress by the star of The Kardashians.
"I thought it was a big mistake," Mackie told Entertainment Weekly.
"[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. And that was done for her. It was created for her," he argued.
The legendary costume designer made the design in 1962 for Jean Louis, who modeled the famous dress that Monroe wore to the serenade of then-president John F. Kennedy for his 45th birthday. Monroe died less than three months later.
To fit the dress, Kardashian lost 16 pounds in three weeks after the dress - which was first handed to her by private jet from the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in Orlando, Florida - initially did not fit and could not was changing.
Mackie's comments follow similar reactions from historians who say that Kardashian's "Marilyn" moment at the Met Gala was a disrespect to the integrity of the dress and its invaluable history.
Dr. Justine De Young, professor of fashion history at the Institute of Fashion Technology, said such an iconic piece of American history should not be put at risk of harm just for a selfish urge and photography.
Monroe historian and collector Scott Fortner said that "when Marilyn was to perform at President John F. Kennedy's birthday gala evening, she contacted Louis and said, 'I want you to design a truly historic dress, a dazzling dress that is of a kind. " She wanted it to be a dress that "only Marilyn Monroe could wear."
