The first photos of Amanda Seyfried in the role of the American entrepreneur convicted of fraud, Elizabeth Holmes,
You may have heard of Elizabeth Holmes, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who owned a health technology company called Theranos. This company which through a trick promised a new, revolutionary method of blood testing reached the value of 9 billion dollars making Holmes the youngest female billionaire in the world. But after the fraud was discovered all the wealth went to zero.
After a series of high-profile exposures from The Wall Street Journal, along with the hit podcast 'The Dropout' and Alex Gibney's documentaries The Inventor on HBO, Therano's demolition became the highlight of the so-called 'summer of deception' of the year. 2019, along with Anna Delvey and Fyre Festival deals.
So it was only a matter of time before an imaginary retelling of Holmes's story was shown on the big screen and British Vogue provided the first footage of the "The Dropout" trailer starring Amanda Seyfried. The creators of the podcast of the same name are serving as executive producers on the production that will premiere on March 3, 2022.
In the images from the show described as "an incredible tale of ambition and fame that went terribly wrong", we see Seyfried with a range of distinctive Holmes features: her heavy eyeliner, red lipstick, straight blonde hair and more distinctly, the black dress she wore to portray herself as an image of Steve Jobs, her hero.
Coincidentally or not, Holmes herself is currently on trial and her lawyers who completed their defense yesterday in a San Jose court said she could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Some of the most shocking revelations that emerged from Holmes's seven-day testimony were her allegations of an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend and business partner, Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, who will also appear in court next year.
In the images released this week, Naveen Andrews will play the role of Balwani in "The Dropout", although it remains to be seen how their relationship will be interpreted in the series.
This is not the only project about Holmes. Jennifer Lawrence was recently announced as the star of the adaptation of John Carreyrou's book, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup, by Adam McKay.
Which of these two Hollywood 'A' list actresses will most convincingly perform as the most controversial woman in the tech world? Seyfried has already made an impressive start.
