Actors are calling for a modern house not to be built in London's Hampsted: It's design for Malibu
Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter have come together not for the red carpet, nor for the movies and similar matters, but to stop a modern house that they say spoils all the architecture in a neighborhood in north London.
Why are they against?
It is a modern style house. A cryptocurrency and AI couple have applied for permission to demolish a house in West Hampstead and replace it with a four-bedroom house, which the A-listers have said clashes with the area's architecture Arts and Crafts style'.
Daniel and Sendi Young, aged 45 and 39 respectively, want to demolish a 1960s bungalow next to the Hampstead Cricket Club pitch and replace it with a modern, aluminium-clad design.
What do the actors say about the house?
"I have nothing against modern designs, but like trees, the right design, in the right place. This is the wrong design in the wrong place. It would fit right in Malibu, but not in our conservative area," says actor Greg Wise.
