The best cheese of the year is chosen

When you gather 4,434 cheeses from 42 countries in a single room to find out which one is the best, it's not that easy to choose. Of course, the winds blow.

The heady concoction was held in a UK conference room on Wednesday as 250 international 'judges' sniffed and walked across tables of cheese to decide who should take the crown at the 2022 World Cheese Awards.

This year's winner, a gruyer from Switzerland, was chosen as the best.

The jury described the Le Gruyère AOP surchoix as refined, handcrafted that melts on the tongue and has flavors of herbs and fruits.

Gruyère cheese is slightly crumbly and is made from raw cow's milk.

In second place was a Gorgonzola Dolce DOP, a soft blue butter cheese made by De' Magi from Italy.
