Controllers, the lessons of a boycott

Controllers, the lessons of a boycott

By Erjon Uka / Many drives are produced. Some real, some stisen, some premeditated, some overlooked. Sometimes it seems that there is not even time to understand and discuss them, so much so that even the three days of wonder find it difficult to last. But this strike, protest, boycott or coup d'etat of Albcontrol employees taught me, strengthened or reminded me of some things.

At first, he confirmed to me that the speed of politicization of any event is faster than the speed of news spread and many times faster than the time it takes not just to read, but above all to really understand what happened . It would be a half's bad if this trend would appear comical, but unfortunately it seems to be devilish. In all public and social initiatives, politics has the ability to become one. The accusations that are exchanged and the quick pro and cons positions have the same effect that heat has on a sugar ball: They dissolve, they discourage public causes before they are shaped.

I realized that the level of concern that a protest or uprising brings to the ruling class is in direct proportion to the damage it causes in the short term, mainly to the image. The blocking of the work by the controllers caused the suspension of those few flights that are performed in this pandemic time from Rinas. Someone says that the vaccines are coming, they have returned. You can. Exactly the size of the problem is the key to solving it within a few days. While we are monthly witnesses of the protests of miners and oil workers, who have boycotted the work and marched to Tirana: But nothing changes from the two-week ban on excavations in the mine and no international image is affected by their protest. Taxi driver protests take place, but people can take buses; urban line staffs protest, but passengers can ride bicycles; bar and restaurant owners protest, but are closing in on themselves causing harm; merchants revolt, but there are hundreds of thousands and organizing in the block is impossible.

Also the civic perception regarding economic and financial issues, especially when it comes to the success and benefit of the "other" remains highly manipulative and destructive. It was enough to show some figures regarding the salaries of Albcontrol employees, for the network to explode and make comparisons between the salaries of several tens of thousands of lek and the millions benefited by the airport boycotters. But on the other hand, well-being is confirmed once again as a very relative indicator: once someone reaches a certain level, he calls it something secured and deserved, so he aims for more. If this part is violated at least a little, although the level may still remain high compared to others, the level of dissatisfaction increases. Of course many of us forget that we compare ourselves to others, but we also compare ourselves.

Meanwhile the state structure shows a cyclical ability to be caught unawares and almost never has a pre-conceived strategic plan. Salvation, as far as it can be called, has come many times from improvisations. This is exactly what is observed in the strategic sectors and those that are closely related to national security. Falling prey to the "stress" and "fatigue" of some employees can not collapse air transport to the only airport in the country. So either there were signals and they were ignored leaving the situation in free fall, or nothing was understood. Which is more severe, in the context of a sector of particular importance, I find difficult to determine. But situation after situation over the years, it is difficult to find cases of the existence of "plans B".

How justifiable, fair or how illegal the decision of Albcontrol employees was will be understood soon. It is a procedure. The problem with resuming flights will soon be resolved, regardless of the form to be followed. But I am convinced that even after this case, we will not learn anything. Like that quote: history teaches us that we learn nothing from history.
