Video/ Endometriosis and severe menstrual pain, narrated by girls who suffer

Endometriosis is a disorder where tissue that is normally located inside the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus. It most often affects the ovaries, intestines and pelvic tissues (the lower part of the inside of the abdomen).

What is life like for girls with endometriosis?

"I just had my first cycle

My mom told me it's part of being a woman

I soon realized that it is not so simple

At school I will often be in a lot of pain and cry in front of my classmates

Teachers and nurses won't understand me

They are just period pains, they will tell me

When I'm 18 I'm going to go to the hospital feeling like my stomach is going to fall out

They will just give me Nurofren, send me home and tell me

It's just period pain

In my 20s I will have three surgeries

I will try to finish university

Suffering from back pain

I will leave my first job just because period pains are not a reason to report

And when I'm in my 30s I'm going to try to get pregnant

After two years I will still be trying

Endometriosis is not just 'pain'

cycle strength'".
