Spicy chips cause death of teenager, Amazon and eBay remove them from the market
Amazon and eBay have pulled the 'One Chip Challenge', a super spicy chip, from the market.
It is believed that the consumption of this product caused the death of a 14-year-old boy.
Harris Wolobah's parents believe their son, who passed away last week, died from this product.
Made with Carolina Reaper Peppers, the website warns that it should be consumed by adults and also advises avoidance by those intolerant to the spice.
Young people consume it live on TikTok as a challenge to cope with the spicy taste.
An eBay spokesperson said that user safety was a "top priority" and that they had taken it off the market altogether.
Paqui, the company that manufactures it further wrote on the website, "The product continues to adhere to food safety standards. Out of an abundance of caution, we are actively working with our retailers to remove the product from the shelves ."
