WHO: The monkeypox vaccine is not 100 percent effective

Rosamund Lewis, a monkeypox expert at the WHO, has warned that the vaccine is not 100 percent effective, either after exposure to the virus or as a preventative measure.

"We have known from the beginning that this vaccine is not a magic medicine, that would not fulfill all the expectations that exist", she said.

Lewis stated that vaccinated people should wait at least two weeks after receiving the second dose, to understand the full effect of the vaccine.

More than 35,000 cases of infection with this virus have been reported in 92 countries of the world. Of them, 12 people have died.

The World Health Organization on July 23 declared a global health emergency for the spread of monkeypox.
