Infertility, heart disease and kidney disease: How is climate change affecting
Human pressures on the global environment are wreaking havoc on our planet, but they are also a growing threat to human health.

Here are just 9 ways climate change is affecting the human body.

Interruption of sleep

A 2022 study at the University of Copenhagen finds that rising temperatures driven by climate change are significantly reducing the amount of sleep that people around the world get.

Breathing problems

Elevated levels of ozone and particulate matter in the earth - small solid and liquid particles of matter in the air produced from natural and man-made sources - have been found to lead to reduced lung function, especially if a person is exposed to air pollution in childhood.

The main concerns that come from air pollution are: asthma, rhinosinusitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and respiratory infections.

7. Kidney damage

Dehydration from heat exposure can damage the kidneys, which depend on water to help remove waste products from our blood in the form of urine.

6. Severe allergies

With increasing CO2 levels, which have increased by 9 percent since 2005 and by 31 percent since 1950, the amount of pollen increases as a result of higher rates of photosynthesis.

5. Circulatory damage of the heart

When air pollutants travel into your bloodstream through the lungs, the risk of developing heart disease and circulatory system increases as blood vessels narrow and harden.

A 2018 study conducted in London found that with increasing air pollution, particles manage to enter the bloodstream, making the blood more sticky and forcing the heart to work harder to pump.

The result can lead to a change in the structure of the heart with the two lower chambers becoming larger and more enlarged - a change that is often seen in the early stages of heart failure.

4. Infertiliteti

1. Mikroplastika që gjendet në trupin tonë

It is not just climate change that is harming our health, it is the disregard for the welfare of the planet, which is clearly seen in the excessive use of plastic.

Microplastics, extremely small pieces of plastic waste found in the environment, are being found in the human body. In March, they were found in human blood for the first time - we are talking about plastics used to make beverage bottles, packaging and shopping bags. There is fear among scientists that these nanoparticles reach our organs through the bloodstream.
