Male infertility anxiety is spawning new products on the market
Male fertility is at the center of new market trends, as various studies have proven a decrease in the reproductive quality of sperm.
A study published in May 2023 in the scientific journal Toxicological Sciences found microplastics in every human testicle examined, causing concern, and other studies also found, as Business of Fashion reports, that sperm counts have halved in the past 50 years, although further studies contradict these findings.
These studies have created a new market trend for men's products, which no longer focuses only on muscle growth, but also on fertility and sexual performance. Medical influencers such as neuroscientist Andreë Huberman and physician Peter Attia have also contributed to confirming this trend, who have increasingly linked physical health with professional, social and emotional success.
These new trends have helped generate a wave of products aimed at enhancing male fertility and virility.
At The Vitamine Shoppe, sales of testosterone support products are in double digits over the past year, particularly sales of the Ultimate Libido sexual performance supplement.
Mars Men, a newer brand, offers a 'natural testosterone support' supplement, while Human Desire makes a libido-enhancing drink. In the UK, Cialis, an alternative to Viagra, has been available since last year.
For many decades, infertility was thought to be a women's problem. Now people are realizing that there is another half of the equation.
Although researchers have yet to definitively establish whether there is a global crisis in male fertility, nor whether OTC (ie, over-the-counter) fertility supplements can truly solve it, it is certain that men, in recent years, are significantly more comfortable talking about male infertility and seeking solutions.
